Gerald R. Allen, Mark V. Erdmann, Sasanti R. Suharti and Abraham Sianipar: Pseudotrichonotus caeruleoflavus, a new species of reef fish from Indonesia (Teleostei: Aulopiformes: Pseudotrichonotidae), pp. 1-10


A new species of pseudotrichonotid, Pseudotrichonotus caeruleoflavus, is described from four specimens, 31.3-33.7 mm SL, collected while scuba diving in the Lesser Sunda Islands of Indonesia at southern Flores. It was also photographed at Misool in the Raja Ampat Islands of West Papua Province. The new taxon is distinguished from the other three members in the genus, P. altivelis (Japan), P. belos (northwestern Australia) and P. xanthotaenia (western Indian Ocean), on the basis of the following combination of features: dorsal rays 32-33; anal rays 13-14; pectoral rays usually 11, most middle rays branched; total caudal-fin ray elements 32; dorsal-fin origin slightly behind pelvic-fin origin, the predorsal length 37.3-38.0% SL; pelvic fins long and filamentous, 37.5-40.9% SL, first and seventh rays unbranched; colour in life translucent pinkish with blue-margined, yellow mid-lateral stripe, about seven, pupil-sized red spots from opercle to caudal-fin base, broad pinkish saddles across dorsum of head and back, and prominent black marking encompassing all or distal portion of first three dorsal-fin membranes. The new taxon occurs on sandy bottoms in 40-70 m depth, usually in areas of cool upwelling.

Stefano Valdesalici and José Ramón García Gil: Anablepsoides chapare, a new killifish (Teleostei: Cyprinodontiformes: Cynolebiidae) from central Bolivia, pp. 11-18


Anablepsoides chapare, new species, is here described from a small stream in the Isiboro River drainage, tributary of Mamoré River, Amazon basin, central Bolivia. It is a member of the A. limoncochae species group and differs from all the other species of this assemblage in its unique colour pattern and morphological differences. Within this assemblage A. chapare seems to be more related to A. christinae and A. luitalimae, both occurring at the Rio Madeira basin, sharing with these species the same caudal-fin shape and a similar color pattern on sides of body, but clearly differing from these species by details of coloration and the number of rays in anal, dorsal and pelvic fins, and also by distinct counts of scales on longitudinal and circumpeduncolar series. Anablepsoides chapare is the only formally described species of the genus occurring in Bolivia apart from A. beniensis, which is also known from the Rio Madeira basin, but clearly differs from this latter species, belonging to a different species group. Rivulus corpulentus Thomerson & Taphorn is herein transferred to the genus Anablepsoides and considered as belonging to the A. limoncochae species group.

Flávio C. T. Lima and Ivan Sazima: Corydoras desana, a new plated catfish from the upper rio Negro, Brazil, with comments on mimicry within Corydoradinae (Ostariophysi: Siluriformes: Callichthyidae), pp. 19-32


A new Corydoras species is described from the Igarapé Castanha, a tributary of rio Tiquié, upper rio Negro basin, Brazil. The new species belongs to a basal clade of long-snouted Corydoras (Lineage 1 or Corydoras acutus species-group) and occurs syntopically with a co-mimic species, Corydoras tukano, which is considerably more abundant. Based on the pectoral-spine morphology, it is herein suggested that Corydoras species belonging to the Lineage 1 are Batesian mimics of congeners belonging to Lineages 6 to 9, rather than Müllerian co-mimics as recently hypothesized.

Gerald R. Allen and Mark V. Erdmann: A new species of cardinalfish (Ostorhinchus: Apogonidae) from the Solomon Islands, pp. 33-39


A new species of apogonid, Ostorhinchus pallidus, is described from 13 specimens, 41.2-51.8 mm SL, collected in 18-30 m at Guadalcanal and Makira in the Solomon Islands. Diagnostic features include dorsal rays VII-I,9; anal rays II,8; pectoral rays 14-15; lateral-line scales 24; predorsal scales 3-4; developed gill rakers 4-5 + 18-19; preopercular margin and ridge serrate; body depth 2.9-3.4 in SL; third and fourth dorsal spines longest; colour in life pale pinkish, grading to pale yellow ventrally with faint grey stripe on head at eye level, large black spot at base of caudal fin, series of faint narrow dark bars on the lower side, and black outer edge on first dorsal fin. The new taxon is similar to O. lineomaculatus from the Lesser Sunda Islands of Indonesia but differs with regards to colour pattern, a wider interorbital, deeper caudal peduncle, and longer first anal spine.
